A Mesoscale Simulation Approach to Study the Flow Field in an Axial Granular Bed Filter

In an axial granular bed filter (GBF), a new mesoscale simulation approach is obtained by combining the macroscopic calculation models, i.e., equations of total pressure drop and dust-removal efficiency into porous media model source term conservation equations. After grid-dependent tests experimental validation, effects different conditions, height L, superficial gas velocity ug, dust diameter dp, concentration cp, dg, initial voidage ε0, filtration time t, on are investigated. The results show that related to inertial viscous resistance terms, which increase with increasing cp t decreasing ε dg. Reynolds number, effective Stokes equivalent ratio. It increases dp (small values), ε, Moreover, influence conditions coincides well in relevant studies, further demonstrates accuracy approach. With application this method, flow field can also be easily quickly, expected provide reference for study GBF.
